I’m Robyn a food safety advisor. My aim is to help food businesses comply with food safety laws and regulations, for you to be able to achieve or maintain a 5★ rating when a Food Safety Officer comes to do their inspection.
To do this I will assess your food safety practices, including hygiene, storage and record keeping. I can offer guidance on how to improve and come up with practical solutions. I am able to teach employees and managers how to conduct food safety assessments, how to develop understand and implement HACCP and provide food safety training on things such as allergens.
I can offer an initial meeting with you to see what services you would be interested in and what you would like to achieve.
Most importantly I am here to support businesses, employees and managers develop systems to ensure compliance and maintain safe food practices.

I will carry out an audit, based on the same criteria as an environmental health officer.
This will involve a visit to your premises when it is convenient for you, working with and talking to employees and management to gain an understanding of how they work and what practices they follow and document with regards to food safety. Environmental health officers look for structure, hygiene, and management – documentation. I will dive deeper into each of these areas.
As well as verbally explaining what I have found, I will type an inspection report with what you are doing well and what you could improve upon before your next visit by an environmental health officer. I will be on hand to offer any advice and answer any questions.
Any links regarding training will be provided.

Have you been marked down for paperwork? It may seem minuscule but a mark down for documentation — whether it be filled in incorrectly or missing completely — can affect the business’s rating.
Do you have a HACCP and/or Safer Food Better Business system? Or any other type of food safety management system? Do you need help in creating and managing one? A food safety management system is a legal requirement for a food business — not having one can deem you non-compliant.
I can offer support in showing you how to work through the SFBB (Safer Food Better Business book), how to fill it in, and explain the processes.
It is fundamentally important that you and your employees understand what the safe food practices are, how to implement them, how to document them, and how to report any issues. This shows an environmental health officer that you understand the risks associated with running a food business.
I am happy to offer training sessions for every employee.

Knowing your allergens is essential when running a food business. If you are unsure or would like some reassurance, I can go through your menu with these, creating an allergen matrix for each dish. We can work together to create a system which works for you and keeps customers safe, as this could potentially be a life threatening if wrong. Understanding and displaying a sign for customers to ask about allergens is fundamental for that higher rating.

Could be any or all of the above
Have you been issued a notice by environmental health? Are there things you need to improve on from your last inspection where you received a lower rating than you would have hoped for? Are you compliant? Have you had to close completely and want to reopen?
All of these can have an impact on a business when it becomes public knowledge on social media, or if someone searches your score on the Food Standards website. I can work through requirements and see what needs to be improved and/or what went wrong. This can be within the time frame stipulated by the environmental health officer to make sure you can reopen or achieve that higher mark if you have requested a re-score.

I started working in a kitchen when I was 17 and progressed through the business to work in the delicatessen, the café as an assistant before being promoted to supervisor. I have worked events and set up and ran my own business ‘Robyn’s Nest’ making and supplying cakes and other baked goods, some of which were gluten free. I then decided I wanted to go to university so I found a course which suited me at the University of Birmingham which was a Higher Certificate in Food Safety, Control and Legislation. Since then, I have worked for Peterborough City Council before deciding to start my own venture.
I understand the challenges of working in a kitchen and running your own business along with what legal requirements are to safely produce and sell food. The most important thing of all is that food is produced and sold safely.
I am passionate about food and have enjoyed working in the industry. I find it rewarding being able to help businesses and teach people and seeing the results they achieve.
